Smolenskenergo completed clearing and extension of ROWs in 2015

27.11.2015

IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division summed up the implementation of measures in 2015 to clear and expand ROWs of overhead lines.

This year Smolensk power engineers cleared 1,522.04 hectares of 6-110 kV overhead lines of trees and shrubs. The branch spent approximately 32.78 million rubles on the clearing of ROWs in 2015.

Prior to the autumn-winter operation period the work plan on expansion of ROWs in the amount of 147.08 hectares was also completed. All activities on clearing and expansion of ROWs along power lines were performed in strict compliance with regulations and requirements of the legislation.

"Clearing of trees and shrubs in the protected zones of overhead power lines by Smolensk power engineers is carried out each year in preparation for the autumn-winter operation period and to improve the reliability of electric networks. In winter due to adverse weather the likelihood of technological disruptions of power equipment operation greatly increases due to tree branches touching wires and falling trees growing near electrical installations and power lines. Work on clearing and extension of ROWs of overhead lines is a must activity of repair and maintenance and one of the most important conditions to ensure reliable power supply to consumers. The bulk of clearing accounts usually for July, August and September," clarified Deputy Chief Engineer for Operations - Head of the Asset Management Centre of Smolenskenergo Oleg Shirokov.
