Smolenskenergo cares about the safety of its employees and conducts an information campaign on electrical safety with the population

Questions to prevent and reduce occupational injuries, occupational safety, keeping health and lives of personnel are priorities for IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division. 30.2 million rubles were spent to perform labour protection measures for 9 months of 2015.

The priority areas in the field of occupational safety are measures to prevent accidents, purchase of personal protective equipment, tools and appliances, measures for prevention of diseases in the workplace, events to improve the working conditions of staff.

In 2015 work continued on equipping with modern means of protection: first responding mobile and maintenance crews are provided with sets of bars to install portable grounding on overhead power lines without climbing poles both for 6-10 kV overhead lines and for 0 4 kV ones. First responding mobile and maintenance personnel are fully equipped with overalls, resistant to electric arc.

The important directions in the field of occupational safety of employees in Smolenskenergo also include training employees with safe work practices, increased knowledge in the field of occupational health and safety, as well as testing safety knowledge with the appropriate personnel. Knowledge of the rules of safety in the operation of electrical equipment, technical operation and rules of fire safety are first checked, testing of first aid skills in case of accidents at work is also carried out. Every month in the central commission of the branch an average of 14 managers and employees of the branch have their knowledge tested, and in commissions of structural units - 90 employees.

The branch cares not only about the safety of its own employees, but also works to reduce the risk of injury to third-parties at facilities of Smolenskenergo. In 2015 a program to reduce the risk of injury to third parties provided for the implementation of a set of measures to improve the technical operation of electrical installations and prevention of electric injuries. All of them were carried out in full and on time. Smolenskenergo’s power facilities are regularly examined by commissions of power engineers: they check the integrity of door locks, presence of locking devices. To inform the public all power facilities of the branch have signs and posters warning of the danger of electric shock.

Particular attention during the past period of 2015 was also paid to advocacy work among different population groups. For example, there were talks of experts of the branch in children's camps and lessons on electrical safety in schools of the Smolensk region. Throughout the school year, Smolensk power engineers visit schools of the region, where, together with teachers hold special sessions on electrical safety in classes "Basics of Life Safety", as well as extracurricular activities. By the end of the year power engineers of Smolenskenergo will continue to conduct consistent and regular work on the prevention of electric injuries among residents of the region.
