Kostromaenergo modernizes the grid infrastructure management system based on advanced technologies

13.11.2015

IDGC of Centre - Kostromaenergo division continues taking measures to implement its system of high-speed data transmission channels based on fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL). For three years the company has constructed almost 1,300 km of fiber optic links, other 1,663 km of optical fiber lines have been laid on 35-110 kV overhead lines. For today Kostromaenergo has connected 23 of 27 Distribution Zones and 75 substations of 35-110 kV with high-speed data transmission channels. By the end of the year the branch is planning to connect the other two Distribution Zones and three substations of 35-110 kV to the existing network.

The implementation by Kostromaenergo of the high-speed data channels will make it possible to increase the observability and controllability of substations. Amount of telemetry data transmitted to control centres has significantly increased. As the high-speed digital channels combined all PBXs into a single network, it made it possible to introduce a general numbering resource into the corporate telephone network. A system of video conferencing with all Distribution Zones has been set up. Now it is possible to make widespread implementation of digital radio communications.

"The development of the network of fiber-optic communication lines has allowed to significantly increase the efficiency of the operational management of grids and, consequently, reliability of power supply to customers," stresses the head of the office of corporate and technological automated control systems Nikolay Koshurin.
