Smolenskenergo sums up the work on street lighting for 9 months of 2015

07.10.2015

IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division currently serves 44,679 light fixtures and 2,564 km of lines of outdoor lighting. Work is carried out under 327 municipal contracts.

In 2015, in addition to the maintenance of lighting fixtures, outdoor lighting networks were repaired (replacement of poles and wires with SIW, mercury lamps for sodium). In the city of Smolensk outdoor lighting networks were renovated in the streets: Gagarin, Furmanov, Zeleniy ruchey, Krasniy rechey, Maloshkolnaya. In the current year it is planned to repair exterior lighting in the streets of Tvardovsky, Chaplin, Lenin, Prospect of Builders, in the Park of the 1100th anniversary of Smolensk.

To date, the energy efficiency of street lighting is becoming increasingly important for the city budget. Therefore, more and more often in the streets they try to install LED lighting fixtures that are not only significant energy savings, but also have a bunch of other benefits. They are resistant to low temperatures, do not overheat, evenly light roadways and streets, and do not require expensive disposal after use.

Currently, in the Smolensk region there are 1,432 LED lighting fixtures installed in the city of Rudny, settlement of Ozerniy, in the city of Smolensk (Kirov Str., General Lukin Str., Moscow Highway - exit at the highway Moscow - Minsk). By the end of the year outdated fixtures might be replaced to LED in the city of Gagarin.

At the moment, Russia has experienced steady growth in electricity tariffs: for different regions the annual increase in the price per kilowatt-hour is 5-15%. In addition, according to the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development until 2017 the growth in electricity prices in Russia will be at least 10-11% per year. Therefore, the issue of energy conservation is the key in today's street lighting. The need to reduce operating costs of outdoor lighting becomes relevant while repairing existing lighting installations.

In this regard, in the city of Smolensk in Marshal Konev Street there is a special operation mode of lamps at night, which significantly reduces power consumption. Further on, during the reconstruction of outdoor lighting it is also planned to introduce a night mode of operation of the equipment.

The main way to save electricity for street lighting may include the use of various lighting control systems. About 40 control panels with controllers of series KURS are successfully used in electrical installations of the city of Smolensk. The system is designed to meet the challenges of outdoor lighting control and operational monitoring and consumption of its lines. The implementation of this equipment allows to quickly detect defective lamps, switching devices and fuses, improve the reliability of switching on and off the city lighting.
