Students’ construction crews: reloaded

03.07.2014

The first students’ construction crew started working at IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division. Before August 1 eight students of specialties will be able to express themselves in the electric grid operation of the Yaroslavl region, working side by side with professional power engineers.

Older people remember that before the youth construction crews were everywhere. Hands of students built new roads, industrial and agricultural facilities. For young people the work in construction crews was honoured, that labour was well paid and respected. "Russian Grids" decided to renew this tradition: July 1 a solemn line-up for a new generation of construction crews was held simultaneously in all subsidiaries and affiliates of the company.

Students of Yaroslavl Agricultural Academy got their passes to construction crews at Yarenergo. They learn at graduation courses specializing in "Electrical Equipment and Electrical Technology in Agriculture". Of course, what the young people will do in the branch is markedly different from the classical students’ construction crews of the Soviet years. In modern energy the construction is a high-tech process, which only specialized organizations can deal with. Preliminarily all members of the construction crew were trained and received the second group of electrical safety. This will allow them to perform a wide range of works, from reading meters and to routine inspections of facilities and repair of equipment s at the production centre.

Official launch of the construction crew work was preceded with a solemn ceremony. For the young people excursions to the Grid Control Centre and one of the largest facilities of Yarenergo – the substation "North" were organized. Chief Engineer of the branch Vladimir Grigoryev and Head of Human Resources Lyudmila Rozhdestvenskaya gave a pass to the students. They instructed the young people before work and talked about what prospects the most distinguished students can expect.

Vladimir Grigoryev recalled how he started his career in the energy sector, particularly emphasizing the importance of exploring the real production process during the study:

"At one exam a teacher asked me a question that can be answered only by being well grounded on practical part. I admitted that I did not know, but asked for some time. The next day I went to the substation, talked with the workers and examined all in detail. In the end I got the highest score."

Now the young people have already started work in Distribution Zones of the branch as electricians to operate distribution grids. Each of them has a dedicated experienced mentor.

Over the next month these students will get their first work experience. In the future, it will allow them to quickly find a job and join the new labour team. It is possible that for many of them this team will be Yarenergo. Those who show themselves in the construction crew will have a good chance of employment in the branch. In any case, work for a large company and mentoring of senior colleagues will help make them real professionals.
