Belgorodenergo modernizes the grid of rural areas

25.07.2013

In the first half of the year IDGC of Centre — Belgorodenergo division reconstructed about 90 km of 0.4-10 kV grids in excess of 140 million rubles in settlements of the region. The reconstruction has been completed in the villages of Shelaevo (Valuysky district), Rogovatoye (Stary Oskol district), Berezovka (Borisovsky district) and Vyshniye Peny (Rakityansky district). Work will continue in Nikolskoye of Belgorod district, Bykovka and Butovo of Yakovlevsky district. In total the company will spend about 700 million rubles on the reconstruction of rural areas this year.

The work is being performed by a complex method, providing for full modernization of the electricity supply system — replacement of worn, out of their lifecycle grids, installation of new substations and modern electricity metering and outdoor lighting systems. This year, the program has covered more than 30 rapidly developing rural areas.

At all the power facilities power engineers use already proven technologies and materials. Self-supporting insulated wire (SIW) is resistant to adverse weather events, has no problem with whipping of wires, falling trees and branches. Kiosk-type transformer substations are significantly different from the previous ones in terms of safety. Energy-efficient lighting fixtures are installed in the streets, which will be operated by a modern automated system that allows to set lighting modes remotely from the operator’s control centre. New meters are being installed to take electricity readings.

«At the time of reconstruction we have to implement a schedule of planned outages, but the population takes it with understanding,» underlines Deputy Head of distribution grids Office of IDGC of Centre — Belgorodenergo division Mikhail Malikhin. «Former grids were constructed 35-40 years ago, are designed for one-time consumption by the customer of only two kilowatts, and now in the homes there are computers, washing machines, dishwashers, electric boilers, kettles, microwave ovens and other electrical appliances. Hence there are voltage drops in the grid. The new grid is able to provide reliable and quality power supply to consumers in accordance with the established norm of 15 kW.»

Together with the reconstruction the power engineers reduce the length of feeders, eliminate all violations of security zones along power lines and take out power lines from residential areas. This will help decrease electrical energy losses and provide safe operation of power facilities.
