Kostroma power engineers perform thermal imaging inspection of power facilities

05.03.2013

IDGC of Centre — Kostromaenergo division for the first time has organized a thermal imaging inspection of line disconnectors on overhead power lines of 6-10 kV.

Inspection of the given type of equipment will be performed in 27 Distribution Zones of Kostromaenergo. Until the end of March 2013, it is planned to check more than 2,000 disconnectors.

After completing the inspection experts will start thermal imaging survey of transformer substations and distribution points. Kostroma power engineers of IDGC of Centre plan systematic check of all equipment of the branch.

Thermal control is performed with the help of special devices — thermal imagers. The purpose of the survey is to perform malfunction diagnostic of equipment to detect hidden defects: heating of contact connections, damaged insulation, which cannot be determined by visual inspection.

«Early detection of defects can increase the life of electrical equipment, prevent process failures, reduce the volume, timing and cost of repair work, thus improving the reliability and continuity of electricity supply to consumers,» considers Deputy Chief Engineer — Head of distribution networks Office of Kostromaenergo Alexander Chutkov.
