A group of 30 4th year students of the chair “Power Supply” at Southwestern State University (YUZGU) visited the substation (SS) 110/10 kV “Boiler”. This is another event in a long-term cooperation between IDGC of Centre — Kurskenergo division and YUZGU.
Leading engineer of the substation service of high-voltage network Office of Kurskenergo Alexander Medvedev conducted a tour of the power facility. From his story the students learned that the substation “Boiler” transmits the power of 115 megawatts of generating equipment of the boiler room of the Northwest District of the city through five lines of 110 kV to the national grid.
After an extensive renovation the substation is equipped with gas-insulated switchgear and control switchgear (GIS 110 kV) made by the Swiss company “AREVA T&D” of indoor type with 12 gas-insulated bays. It is much more compact than the equivalent in power energy facilities with outdoor switchgear. The service life of the device is at least 50 years.
Future power engineers learned with interest that the substation “Boiler” has a reserve of electrical power, and the qualified staff of Kurskenergo maintains the normal functioning of the whole modern energy industry.
According to associate professor of the chair “Power Supply” of YUZGU Nikolay Khoroshilov, one can feel the power of the substation, equipped with the most modern equipment, which is the “boiler” substation inside its walls. Theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and practical acquaintance with modern electrical equipment at the facilities of Kurskenergo will help the future power engineers feel real scale of occurring in the energy industry changes and be better prepared to work in the specialty.
