Orelenergo cares about the safety of children

20.02.2012

Over the past year, no accidents involving children and adolescents at power facilities of IDGC of Centre — Orelenergo division were documented. Power engineers believe that this is due to the continuous public awareness efforts on electrical safety among the population, conducted by specialists of the branch during the whole year.

For the prevention of children’s electric injuries specialists of the branch in conjunction with the Department of Education of the Orel region conduct classes on electric safety in all 24 districts of the region in pre-school, secondary and post-secondary institutions. In 2011 74 lessons on electrical safety were held, in which children and young people were explained the basic rules of handling electrical appliances, their behavior close to power facilities. We used visual aids for better absorption of essential for life safety rules. Power engineers reminded the children that one must not insert foreign objects into the outlet, play near power facilities, climb power line poles and approach open wires. Conducting such classes for both children and adults the Orel region greatly reduces the risk of accidents at power facilities.

Within the developed and approved program to reduce the risk of injuries at power facilities of the branch in 2011 a whole set of events was held to bring electric grid facilities in compliance with reliable and safe operation. Power engineers performed removal of overhead power lines and transformer substations from premises of schools, playgrounds, mass housing construction, and replaced the dangerous sections of conductors with bare wire for self-supporting insulated wire (SIW).

The conducted by employees of IDGC of Centre — Orelenergo division preventive measures not only help prevent cases of children’s electric injuries, but save the health and lives of people.
