Yarenergo museum has new exhibits

The Museum of History of the Yaroslavl Power System of IDGC of Center — Yarenergo division opened two new stands. They are devoted to the formation of Yarenergo Districts of Electrical Networks (DEN) and staff who took part in the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident.

The creation of Districts of Electrical Networks of Yaroslavl power system was a part of a large-scale work on rural electrification, which was held in our country during the second half of the last century. The first steps in this direction are depicted in copies of archival documents, newspaper clippings describing the achievements of power engineers and photos of 60-70s. The new exhibition also includes information about the current status of all eighteen Yarenergo Districts of Electrical Networks, their personnel, equipment, facilities and key services.

The Museum also opened a stand devoted to liquidators of the Chernobyl accident. Today, employees, who helped to eliminate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster a quarter century ago, work at different parts of the division. For many years information about those tragic events was classified. The museum exhibits photos of liquidators, and documentation of their stay in the zone of radioactive contamination, awards and, of course, memories of power engineers of what they had to face in Chernobyl.

“The museum archive is constantly updated by Yarenergo staff and veterans. They give us old photographs and objects related to power industry and have historic value. The thematic material for opening new stands and the completion of the existing exhibition is gradually being formed”, — says Head of social relations section of IDGC of Centre -Yarenergo Nikolay Merkulov.
