8 June 2016, at the stadium "Labour Reserves" of the city of Kursk the final game of the Football Cup of Kursk Region between the teams of "Kurskenergo" and "Avangard-2" took place. In the bitter competition the power engineers beat the last year’s winner of the Cup with a score of 1:0, and for the third time were awarded the honorary trophy.
The first half of the Cup finals was held in a positional struggle. The teams played cautiously, trying to give their opponent the initiative, based on the success in the counterattack. After the timeout, it was more open football, the game became more active at the goal posts of both teams and scoring chances began to emerge from time to time.
The decisive game episode occurred in the 64th minute when the goalkeeper of "Avangard-2" encountered with cheap shot within his own penalty area a player "Kurskenergo". Chief referee showed the yellow card to the goalkeeper and awarded a 11-metre penalty that was successfully shot by the striker Kirill Murashov. After that the power engineers until the end of the game confidently controlled the field, having created shortly before the final whistle a few dangerous moments at the opponents’ goal posts.
"Kurskenergo" is one of the best teams in the regional football, which won all possible regional awards. Until now, no other team has been able to repeat its success - one year to win the Cup and the Regional Championship in football and futsal. The power engineers are finalists and winners of numerous corporate events at the regional level and nationwide.
