Power engineers of IDGC of Centre provide their facilities for the implementation of a federal project

3 March 2015

IDGC of Centre - Kostromaenergo division takes part in a pilot project for the development of the telecommunications network in rural areas. The Kostroma region launched a federal program to eliminate the digital divide. According to the project in all settlements with a population of 250 to 500 people Internet access points will be provided. To implement the program fiber-optic communication lines are used, laid over power lines of Kostromaenergo. The first access point in the project was tested during the visit of Minister of Communications Nikolay Nikiforov to the Kostroma region. It is located in the village of Mikhailovskoye in Sudislavsky District 45 kilometres away from Kostroma.

Telecom operators were given the opportunity to lay fiber-optic communication lines, using distribution networks of the Kostroma branch of IDGC of Centre as part of a strategic cooperation agreement between JSC "Russian Grids" and OJSC "Rostelecom". This solution not only saves "communicators" of the need to build their own infrastructure for the laying of fiber-optic lines, but also cuts down on the years of the program's implementation.

In turn, part of the optical fibers will be transferred to the ownership of the power company. "The dedicated to the needs of Kostromaenergo resource will allow implement at energy facilities use of new microprocessor equipment, improve the quality of dispatching communication channels multifold, transmit telemetry data, implement remote management of relay protection and automation and a supervisory control system. As a result, the operational management of grids will be enhanced and, as a consequence, the reliability of power supply to customers," comments on the project Head of the corporate and technological automated control systems office of Kostromaenergo Nikolay Koshurin.

According to the specifications, in the implementation of the pilot project over the grids of Sudislavsky Distribution Zone of Kostromaenergo 75 km of fiber optic links were laid with taps at a 110 kV substation and 2 35 kV substations. In the near future, the federal program will be implemented in Makaryevsky district. According to the project 140 km of fiber optic links will connect one 110 kV substation and 5 35 kV substations.
