23 April 2014

May 5, 2014 at 02:00 p.m. to celebrate the 69th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Smolensk on Lenin Square there will be the campaign "Energy of Victory", during which the longest St. George ribbon in Russia will be presented.

More than 500 volunteers, selected from among young employees of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division, student unions, civil society organizations, educational institutions and companies in the region with the organizational support of the Administration of the Smolensk region, will stretch on the main square of the city a 400-metre St. George ribbon. Then, without breaking the line, volunteers will "write" with the tape "MAY 9" and portray the figure of "Star of the Hero".

The length of the tape will be 400 metrse, width - 36.5 centimeters. Such parameters of the St. George ribbon were selected on purpose. The surface area of the tape is the approximate population of Russia, together with the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol city (400m = 400 000mm 36.5 cm = 365mm 400000*365 = 146mln).

The St. George ribbon, stretched in Smolensk, will be the longest in the history of Russia. To fix the record IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division sent a request to the organizing committee of Guinness World Records, Record Book of Russia, as well as to other similar organizations.
