Weather forecast — in the service of power engineers

20 May 2013

IDGC of Centre continues implementing a system of environmental monitoring using weather stations. In the run-up of the company to operate through a storm period and time of heat wave activity the work to install weather stations becomes most relevant.

A weather station with special sensors receives data on wind speed and direction, pressure and humidity, maximum and minimum ambient air temperature, wind gusts, and maintains the current statistics and automatically archives the information. All the data in the on-line mode are sent to the Grid Control Centre and local control centres in Distribution Zones. Timely forecasting allows the operator, taking into account the weather conditions, promptly to maintain the necessary equipment operation modes, optimally reallocate personnel and vehicles, if necessary, arrange operation and maintenance staff on duty and notify responsible staff on duty and Headquarters. The first 16 weather stations, which were installed as a pilot in the Belgorod region back in 2011 and 2012, have already proved their efficiency. Given the results, IDGC of Centre continues developing the project to install digital weather stations in the branches of the company.
