Interaction for the benefit of consumers

24 October 2012

IDGC of Centre completed the preparation for winter. One of the features of the preparation this year was the establishment of a more efficient interaction of all energy grid companies. This task is carried out in the new stage of reforming the grid complex of the Russian Federation and consolidation of transmission and distribution grid companies in order to increase security of supply, improve responsiveness to abnormal situations. This formed the basis of orders that were issued by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a working meeting with Chairman of the Management Board of FGC UES Oleg Budargin in August. As part of this power engineers form of a single scheme of operation of networks, unite emergency reserves, establish information exchange, provide interaction between first responding and mobile crews.

In the Yaroslavl region in preparing grid facilities in the region for the autumn-winter period power engineers of IDGC of Centre — Yarenergo division and Yaroslavl EMES of FGC UES demonstrated a high level of interaction. By joint forces the power engineers successfully completed the emergency replacement of ground wire of the overhead 220kV Uglich-Vega, which supplies electricity to the water utility MUP “Water canal” in the city of Uglich. As any interruption in the supply of energy to the water facilities could lead to negative social consequences and harm the environment, the power engineers performed all work without a power outage.

The situation was complicated by the impossibility of organizing a temporary backup power supply for the enterprise, as well as the use of mobile power supplies. At a joint meeting experts of transmission and distribution grids developed a special procedure in which the safe performance of repair work did not affect the water supply of residents of the district centre. For the duration of the work the power engineers of Uglich Distribution Zone of Yarenergo installed cable insertion of cross-linked polyethylene at the intersections of the lines. Thus safe operation and uninterrupted power supply of the social facility was secured. After the repair the cable inserts were removed.

“This case study shows that power engineers work as a team and always are ready to help each other in the area of safety and reliability of electricity supply of customers,” — underlined Deputy Director for Technical Issues — Chief Engineer of IDGC of Centre — Yarenergo division Vladimir Grigoriev.

In the Smolensk region in the period of the technological failure, which occurred on October 6-7 with a major hurricane with wind gusts up to 20-23 m/s and heavy precipitation, power engineers of Bryansk power grids enterprise of FGC UES quickly came to assist their colleagues of Smolenskenergo. Two involved mobile maintenance crews and five vehicles of BPGE assisted in restoration on a 35-110kV power line. Thanks to the coordinated work of the personnel of power lines services of Smolenskenergo and FGC UES for two hours they managed to restore power supply to social facilities and during the day switched to the normal operation scheme of the main grid.
