Specialists of Smolenskenergo continue work to prevent children’s electric injuries

24.04.2018

Specialists of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division continue work to prevent children’s electric injuries, since electrical safety is one of the priority activities of IDGC of Centre. An important part of this work is thematic lessons, which the power company conducts not only throughout the school year, but also during summer holidays. Lessons are usually organized on the initiative of employees of Smolenskenergo.

In the 1st quarter of 2018, power engineers visited 12 educational institutions of the region to teach Smolensk schoolchildren the rules of electrical safety. About 500 pupils learned why one must not play near power lines, touch broken wires and penetrate the substation premises. The power engineers demonstrated to children safety signs that are placed on all power facilities of the branch and warn of a deadly threat.

The specialists of Smolenskenergo reminded them once again that it is strictly forbidden to climb power line poles, walk on roofs and attics near which power lines pass, fish and launch "kites" under wires and gave examples of accidents with their peers who did not comply with these rules.

Of the modern passions of the younger generation, a danger is borne by selfies at power facilities, the use of a monopod ("a stick for selfie") near power lines, graffiti on power facilities. The power engineers showed the children thematic stories, which once again reminded of the danger of such hobbies near power facilities.

Special attention is always paid to safety behaviour near broken wires. Children are taught to walk "goose step" - not taking their feet off the ground and from each other, because such a method can save life in a dangerous zone of step voltage.

To secure the material, Smolenskenergo’s specialists use educational films and cartoons about the rules of safe behaviour with electricity in everyday life and in the street. Of particular interest among schoolchildren is always the robot simulator, with which the power engineers practice the skills of first aid to the victim with electric shock.
