03.05.2017

In April 2017, employees of IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division began to bring the territories of military memorials in order. Thus, representatives of the Youth Council of the branch took part in the improvement of the territory of the first burial place of the Hero of the Soviet Union, the partisan-demolisher, Vladimir T. Kurilenko. He was buried in the village of Vystavka in Demidovsky district of the Smolensk region, and after - in 1947 his ashes were moved to Smolensk and reburied near the fortress wall, in the Square of memory of the heroes. The partisan’s fighting path was short-lived (about 10 months), but it was Vladimir Kurylenko who was destined to become a symbol of a young man who gave his life for the ideals of the Motherland and freedom.

The power engineers came up with the initiative to bring the burial place in order. In the adjoining territory, they removed the garbage, cleaned the monument of the turf.

Smolenskenergo’s employees regularly participate in measures to bring public and memorable places in order. On the eve of Victory Day, the energy company throughout the region planted trees next to the memorial complexes, cleaning up debris and leaves from the territory.

"Our work is not only reliable energy supply, but also care for the cultural and historical heritage of our native land. This is especially important when it comes to the memory of the price of Victory in the Second World War. Our task is to transfer this memory to other generations, not allowing distortion and misinterpretation," stresses the chairman of the Youth Council of Smolenskenergo Alexey Magon.

Work on the improvement of military memorials on the eve of Victory Day this year is performed within the framework of the "Green Distribution Zone" project, timed to the Year of Ecology in Russia. In all the company’s branches, planting trees, clean-up events, landscaping activities in Distribution Zones, existing "Power Engineers’ Alleys" and sponsored memorials, dedicated to the memory of those, who died in the Great Patriotic War, are being carried out under the approved program.
