At the initiative of the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Russian Ministry of Education on 15 December in the territory of the Russian Federation a thematic lesson on energy-efficient lighting and careful attitude to energy resources was organized. In the Smolensk region staff of IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division that day held 35 lessons in 24 educational institutions of the Smolensk region. Classes were held in 16 districts of the region and the regional centre for schoolchildren of grades 2-10. The total coverage of the audience was about 700 pupils and 50 teachers.
The event aimed to attract the attention of schoolchildren to the opportunities and benefits of energy-saving technologies, the impact of human activities on the environment and the formation of schoolchildren' energy-saving behaviour patterns, focused on the careful and responsible attitude to energy and natural resources.
"We are interested to make residents of the Smolensk region, staff of enterprises and organizations, operating in the region, be literate consumers, be able to accurately plan the energy consumption mode, know principles and methods of energy savings and implement them in practice. The younger generation is future electricity consumers, employees and managers of small and large businesses, it is their education we should, in our opinion, start the promotion of energy efficiency," commented the head of energy saving and efficiency of Smolenskenergo Dmitry Serenkov. "Smolenskenergo for the first time took part in such a large-scale action - the single class of energy efficiency, but during the year we on a regular basis attend schools of the region to introduce children to the elementary rules of energy saving in their daily lives."
During the lessons, held on 15 December, the children were told about alternative forms of energy, ways of its rational use. During the lesson the schoolchildren took an active part in the discussion of energy efficiency, talked about their own observations of the use of electricity at home. Following the event, teachers and principals thanked Smolenskenergo for the classes held and invited to their schools next year.
