Yaroslavl power engineers actively use a benchmarking technology

09.09.2015

"Yarenergo" is implementing new methods of evaluation of production and economic activity of structural divisions.

For a comprehensive evaluation of the work IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division uses various management tools. One of these tools, used in "Yarenergo", is benchmarking (in the English language benchmark - "landmark", "standard").

Benchmarking, used in "Yarenergo", is aimed at comparing the technological and operating performance of Distribution Zones. The main objective of benchmarking is to determine the effectiveness of the company’s internal standards. This enables the units to exchange experience, encourage them to use advanced methods and techniques.

The basis for a comprehensive evaluation of production and economic activities of Distribution Zones is the system of indicators used in IDGC of Centre for the monitoring of business processes. These include the implementation of maintenance and investment programs, diagnostic programs, the level of energy losses in the networks, the implementation of grid connection, the provision of value-added services. As a result of the evaluation Distribution Zones’ rating is made, which allows to assess and compare the results of their activities.

"Benchmarking is an integral part of the work of major domestic and foreign companies, the main method for assessing quality. Using regular comparative analysis as a way of evaluation of Distribution Zones, we see the dynamics of their production, financial and economic efficiency in general and how well they cope with the individual functions. This allows to identify problems (bottlenecks) and make recommendations to address them," stressed Acting Director of IDGC of Centre - Yarenergo division Alexander Kornilov.

Such a method of assessment has proved its effectiveness. Since the beginning of the application of the system of evaluation the effectiveness of all Distribution Zones of the region has grown by an average of 30%. The leaders are Danilovsky, Poshehonsky and Lyubimsky districts. In the first quarter of 2015 they added another Uglich Distribution Zone.

Management decisions, based on the results of a comprehensive assessment, were the establishment in the branch of specialized mobile crews for grid connection and a group for electricity audit. The formation of specialized crews began in July on the site of Yaroslavsky, Rybinsky, Pereslavlsky and Nekrasovsky districts. Equipped with new special vehicles, the created crews will be engaged in grid connection in their districts and, if necessary, in other Distribution Zones of the branch. The work of these units will ensure rapid response time and significantly reduce the implementation of grid connection contracts.

The electricity audit group is created in order to increase the volume of productive supply of electricity and revenues for its transmission, as well as to reduce the amount of electric energy losses. The objectives of the audit group include providing on-site inspections at the point of delivery. Highly qualified staff of the group will conduct unannounced inspections of commercial and technical metering points, quickly go to the place of origin of the imbalance, checking sites of losses on individual nodes.

The used in "Yarenergo" benchmarking system was identified as good practice in the past at the branch audit of the existing quality management system in compliance with the international standard ISO 9001:2008.
