At the end of 2014 IDGC of Centre - Smolenskenergo division received 59 new vehicles at its disposal purchased under the program of renovation. Updating the fleet of motor vehicles is a strategically important activity, because the availability of modern, serviceable and reliable vehicles is a necessary condition for rapid elimination of emergency situations, and thus providing consumers with high-quality and uninterrupted power supply and successful operation through the autumn-winter period loads.

The bulk of the cars is from the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant - UAZ-390945 and UAZ-390995, time-tested and full load "workhorses" of the electric grid complex. In addition, Krasninsky, Demidovsky and Monastyrschinsky Distribution Zones were reinforced with new emergency repair workshops "MAVR" on the GAZ-3308 chassis.

Needs of traveling character were not forgotten either - the fleet was updated with two cars with cross-country features UAZ "Patriot" and a 13-seat bus GAZ 32212 "Gazelle Business".

"The planned update of the vehicles, the general policy of the transition to a "single make" and unified fleet of vehicles allows not only reduce the cost of its operation, but also decrease the total number of vehicle stock. As a result these measures will ensure stable operation of the power grid complex, will help better and faster perform assigned (including emergency) tasks, will facilitate efficient resolution of production problems," explained Head of mechanization and transportation of Smolenskenergo Nikolay Golubev.

Currently, Smolenskenergo has 930 special purpose vehicles at its disposal. The bulk is made up of special vehicles of various cross-country models of UAZ - more than 300 units. In addition, there are 5-terrain vehicles TREKOL, which greatly facilitate making a detour of wetlands of power lines for specialists of the high-voltage power lines service, and 7 multifunctional loader cranes allow the logistics department to provide units and Distribution Zones with necessary materials in a timely manner. In recent years, 65 GAZ 3308 vehicles were acquired, including line crew vehicles, pole-hole diggers, bucket trucks, which had a positive impact on the efficiency of the work. All these activities help operate through the autumn-winter peak loads successfully, and mobility of crews with working and upgraded vehicles can significantly reduce the time to eliminate consequences of failures in adverse weather conditions.
