Voronezh power engineers participated in a system-wide emergency exercise

26.09.2014

September 24, 2014 in preparation for the autumn-winter operation period joint exercises of IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division, Voronezh Transmission Control Centre, Regional General Directorate of EMERCOM of Russia and other entities of the electric power industry and executive authorities of the region were held in Voronezh to eliminate interruptions of electricity supply to consumers at low temperatures.

System-wide emergency response exercises, which are traditionally held in the region on the eve of the autumn-winter peak demand, this year were worked out for especially complex scenarios.

According to the scenario, some strong wind at ambient temperature of -25 °C caused damage to equipment and disconnected the second 110 kV bus section of the substation (SS) 500 kV Voronezhskaya. In that case the first 110 kV bus section was under repair. Disconnection of all 110 kV connections led to overload in the grid equipment of Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant, one of 220 kV substations, as well as exceeding the current load of remaining 110 kV power lines in operation. At the same time, because of damage to a gas pipeline the gas supply was cut off at the Voronezh CHP-2, which required urgent transfer of the station to work with the back-up fuel. The accident led to blackouts in the distribution grid and disruption of power supply to consumers. In the area of conventional trips there were health facilities and housing and communal services, industrial, transport and communications facilities.

The power engineers in cooperation with the authorities managed to promptly eliminate the conditional accident, the staff worked smoothly and professionally, not allowing negative developments.

"The actions of all electric power industry entities that participated in the elimination of complex technological violations deserve "OK"," summed up the training Chief Operator of JSC "SO UES" Voronezh Transmission Control Centre Sergey Sozonov.

"The results have confirmed the readiness of employees of Voronezhenergo to work effectively with operators and personnel on duty of the electric power industry entities, the territorial bodies of EMERCOM and executive authorities in emergency response, as well as to ensure reliable operation of the power system of the Voronezh region in the autumn-winter period of 2014-15," stressed Deputy Head of the Crisis Management Centre of Voronezhenergo, Chief Engineer of the branch Sergey Demidov.
