Smolenskenergo continues actively preparing for the autumn-winter peak loads

09.09.2013

IDGC of Centre — Smolenskenergo division in preparation for the autumn- winter period continues actively performing work on clearing ROWs.

For 8 months Smolensk power engineers have already cleared of trees and shrubs more than 1,500 hectares of ROWs along 6-110 kV conductors, which equals to 74.4% of the annual plan. 35,780.000 rubles were spent on this. Standing alone trees are also a threat as they could fall on power lines, and they are cut down in the first place. For 8 months 1,556 trees have been cut down.

Totally in 2013 the power engineers will have to clear nearly 2,110 hectares of ROWs along power lines of Smolenskenergo. In the current year, almost 50 million rubles will be spent to realize these objectives.

Work on clearing and widening of ROWs is a priority for the branch’s activity. Trees, growing on the edge of the ROW, are often the cause of power supply disturbances and fires, especially in adverse weather conditions.

To increase the efficiency and quality of this work, as well as to improve working conditions and to minimize the negative impact on the environment the clearing of ROWs along power lines is performed with the most modern equipment, machinery and materials. For each section of the ROW along an overhead power line the most effective way of clearing is determined. The traditional way for Smolenskenergo is the combination of mechanized and manual methods.

Clearing and extension of ROWs is aimed at reducing failures and improving the efficiency of the branch’s operation and a prerequisite for reliable power supply to consumers of the Smolensk region.
