In the framework of the historical and commemorative action “Homeland of Feat — To Homeland of Hero”, initiated by IDGC Holding, IDGC of Centre — Bryanskenergo division has started to search for information on the 279 Rifle Division, which was formed in the city of Gorky and in 1941 joined the 50th Army of the Bryansk Front. Almost all of its officers and soldiers were killed on the outskirts of Bryansk — in the battles near the village of Golubeya in Dubrovsky district.
In order to perpetuate the memory of the 279th Rifle Division some preliminary archival and retrieval work has been conducted, contacts with the Nizhny Novgorod University have been established, whose students were the backbone of the division. The branch’s Youth Council plans to take part in Memory Watch, during which the search will be conducted in the battlefields of the division.
In Bryansk educational institutions a contest has been announced to develop a reconstruction layout of the military burial in the village of Golubeya. A search for relatives of soldiers mobilized in the city of Gorky and killed near Bryansk is under way.
According to Head of Public Relations of Bryanskenergo Marianna Proskochenko holding the action “Homeland of Feat — To Homeland of Hero” helps strengthen the relationship between human settlements, where the deeds were committed, and the localities where the heroes of the Great Patriotic War were born and brought up, the establishment of relations between the generations, the education of patriotism and pride in the heroism of Soviet soldiers.
