Smolenskenergo increased control over the reliability of power supply during the spring flood in 2012

In order to ensure smooth and reliable operation of power grid facilities of the branch during the spring flood and reduce the risk of emergencies IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division developed a set of measures.

In preparation for the flood period the emergency reserve of personnel was restocked and equipment was prepared for emergency and recovery efforts. The staff of Smolenskenergo organized increased duty of personnel, continuously monitored the performance of substations and power line sections, manufacturing facilities located in areas of flooding.

Experts of IDGC of Centre – Smolenskenergo division took measures to protect equipment from undermining with flood waters, and if necessary took materials and other property out of possible flood zones. Monitoring the status of groundwater and measures to seal places of the passage of cables, pipes and ducts was constant.

The interaction and operational communication with the departments of Civil Defence and Emergency Prevention, local administrations and hydro-meteorological services was set. Portable diesel power plants were available to organize a temporary power supply to consumers.

The set of these measures allowed the branch to pass the flood season without any significant disturbances in the power supply.
