Schoolboys get to know the past and present of the Tver utilities

31.10.2011

On the eve of Day of Power Engineers and the 75th anniversary of the Tver utilities industry the Tver power engineers of IDGC of Centre organized for schoolchildren of gymnasium # 6 a tour to the museum of the Power System at the Tver training and production center, as well as to the Grid Control Center of Tverenergo.

Chief Specialist of the training and production center Elena Finikova told the schoolchildren about the history of the region. The children learned how the utilities industry of the Tver region developed and how it affected the economy of the country and the region. Documents, photos, map of the province, which marked the electrified territories, were able to present a picture of the events of the past more clearly. An example of courage and resilience for children was the contribution of the Tver power engineers in the restoration of power facilities during the World War II after the liberation of the city of Kalinin from the Nazi invaders. The visit to the museum gave the students an opportunity to learn how fast was the development of the power system of the Tver region, to see visually the power facilities of the past in order to compare them with the achievements of the present.

After the museum the high-school children went to the Grid Control Center, where Deputy Chief Engineer for operations and control — Head of Grid Control Center of the division Vladislav Ostrik spoke about the organization of work of the Centre’s specialists. The children could see the technical equipment of the Grid Control Center, which includes the video wall, a central receiving and transmitting station, modern communications and telecommunications media. A special impression on students was produced by the video wall, which allows you to dynamically reflect the necessary information at different scales — from the entire territory of the region to a particular substation.

“These tours are very important, because just at this age schoolchildren are determining the choice of their profession. And, perhaps, seeing the importance and scope of work, many of them in the near future will come to work in the utilities industry, adding to the reserve of talented and skilled professionals,”- noted Vladislav Ostrik.
