Reconstruction of substation “Vostochnaya 1”

24.10.2011

Power engineers of IDGC of Centre-Kostromaenergo division are performing a comprehensive reconstruction of the 35 kV substation “Vostochnaya 1 ”, transferring it to the higher voltage of 110 kV.

Substation “Vostochnaya 1” is one of the most important power facilities in Kostroma, which supplies electricity to residential areas, industrial plants, utilities and agencies of social services in the Eastern part of the city. The reconstruction of the substation is part of the investment program of the division in 2011.

The reconstruction will result in increase of the maximum power of the substation from 26 MW to 50 MW. In the process the outdoor switchgear 35 kV is being replaced for a new 110 kV one. To do this, the unistallation of the old double-circuit 35 kV pole and installation of two new single-circuit 110 kV poles are being performed. To increase the capacity of the substation the uninstallation of the two transformers one 10 MW and 6 MW and the installation of two 110 kV transformer with the capacity of 25 MW each instead is being performed, relay protection and automation devices are being upgraded, remote control and modern gas-insulated equipment is being installed. The work is being performed at the existing substation in stages without interruption of its power supply.

“Substation ‘Vostochnaya 1’ is located in a large district of the city and is essential for its power supply, — said Deputy Director for Technical Issues — Chief Engineer IDGC of Centre -Kostromaenergo division Evgeniy Smirnov. — The need for the reconstruction is due to moral and physical aging of the equipment and increasing loads in urban areas. The increased load makes us take measures to increase capacity and reliability of the facility. The reconstruction will result in more consumers will be able to have their technological connections to the grid of the division”.
