Igor Makovskiy, General Director of Rosseti Centre’s Group of Companies, summed up the preliminary results of restoration work at power grid facilities in regions affected by three waves of powerful cyclones, Quiteria and Caetano.
Bad weather with heavy snowfall, squally wind, and “freezing rain” caused trees and roofing elements to fall on power lines, an excess load on power lines, broken wires, damaged poles, and temporary power outages in a number of populated areas in 17 of 20 regions where Rosseti Centre and Rosseti Centre and Volga region operate. The Smolensk, Tver, Tula, and Kaluga regions were particularly affected.
According to the head, the situation was under the control of the company’s specialists from the very beginning, who immediately began restoration work and carried it out around the clock. Crews of power engineers, equipped with all the necessary gear and special vehicles, repaired the damage without waiting for the cyclone to end to restore the power supply as soon as possible.
Particular attention was paid to social facilities, temporary stay centres were organized if necessary and backup power sources were used. A hotline, online services and temporary consumer service centres worked in an enhanced mode to promptly inform residents.
In total, 986 crews of the company, more than 2,780 power engineers and 1,102 special vehicles were involved in the work. Employees from other branches of the company were sent to help the most affected regions, as well as forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, forestry and volunteers.
“The cyclones became a test of our efficiency, coherence and mutual assistance, and we passed it. I would like to express my gratitude to the power engineers for their selfless work. You have fulfilled your professional duty with honour”, Igor Makovskiy emphasized.
