IDGC of Centre presents its new large-scale development: the power system calculation model of the Voronezh region

16 June 2016

IDGC of Centre - Voronezhenergo division completed work on the creation and implementation of the computational model of the 35-500 kV power grid of the Voronezh region. The model, designed by engineers of the Electric Mode Service of the Grid Control Centre (EMS GCC) of the enterprise, includes power stations, substations and power lines of all subjects of the electric power industry of the Voronezh region of 35 kV and above, as well as connections to the Belgorod, Volgograd, Lipetsk and Tambov energy systems - all in all more than 1,900 nodes and more than 2,500 taps connecting the nodes. The equivalent circuit of the Voronezh power system includes ratings, references, and allowable calculated characteristics of all without exception transformers and power lines. In addition, the database sets characteristic curves of permissible current of power lines from the ambient temperature, defines static voltage characteristics for all loads, describes ranges and stages of voltage regulation of transformers and autotransformers. For ease of use the calculation model is represented by a graphical interface that is unparalleled in detail and completeness of the information displayed. According to experts, this is the most complete and detailed mathematical interpretation of the real grid of the Voronezh power system.

Voronezhenergo already applies the model in practice. It is used to study daily operators’ requests to change the state of technological equipment and power lines, simulation of different normal, repair and post-failure conditions, development of technical specifications for grid connection, formation of integrated development programs of electric grids. As the branch notes, the new development has had time to demonstrate its effectiveness and usefulness. "Its implementation allowed to significantly increase the accuracy of calculations, to reduce the time of their production, opened up new possibilities for optimization of electric grid modes," underlines one of the developers of the model, leading engineer of EMS GCC of Voronezhenergo Alexey Makarov. "In addition to solving the problems associated with simulation of modes of the energy system, our design allows to perform another important function - to quickly make calculations and structural analysis of electric power losses by their nature, types of equipment, areas and voltage levels that allows to quickly identify loss spots and solve the question of their optimization. This is especially true in the framework of implementation of the state energy saving policy," adds the head of EMS GCC of Voronezhenergo Sergey Zolotarev.
