Power engineers of IDGC of Centre continue to connect the Crimean schools to independent power supply sources

Power engineers of IDGC of Centre continue connecting educational institutions in Sevastopol to independent power supply sources. At the moment most of the educational institutions have already been connected.

As a master for operation of overhead lines from Starooskolsky Distribution Zone of IDGC of Centre - Belgorodenergo division Pavel Ushakov said: "In the last two days our crew connected 14 diesel generators in schools of Sevastopol. We try to work quickly, we connect the generator to the Input Distribution Device, and we lay the incoming cable in a metal tube or close with a special type angle to protect the population, and then we do a test run, check the operation of networks. If all is well, we instruct staff who will be responsible for start-up and operation of the generator. We do not leave as long as we see everyone try to turn on and off the generator. At present, we have been transferred to repair and start up diesel generators in multi-storey buildings, two units have already been run up.

However, according to the power engineers, we have faced with great difficulties when connecting the diesel generators. Most of the schools are in old buildings, the power engineers often have to perform partial dismantling of the main walls of school buildings while laying the incoming electric cable, which is certainly lengthens the connection of redundant power supply sources. "For safe and reliable connection in some schools we have to work first as builders making one or more technological holes in a bearing wall of the building, and only then proceed to laying the cable," stressed Pavel Ushakov.

Specialists of IDGC of Centre are planning to connect 67 educational institutions of the city of Sevastopol to independent power supply sources. Installation and maintenance of self-contained power supply (diesel generators) is being done by ten crews of power engineers from 4 branches - Belgorodenergo, Voronezhenergo, Kurskenergo and Lipetskenergo. Completion is scheduled for 6 December 2015.

"Crimeans are very grateful to us, all understand that every effort is made to ensure the normal life of the peninsula. With regard to standby power, this is a forced measure, but at the moment required. We will work as long as we fulfill all the planned volume," said in the conclusion Pavel Ushakov.
