Smolensk power engineers of IDGC of Centre in honour of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory planted the "Memory Alley" near Krasnoye

29 April 2015

As part of the historical and social project "Story of a feat", organized by IDGC of Centre on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, staff of the Smolensk branch of the company planted "Alley of Heroes" in the settlement of Krasnoye in the Smolensk region. Consisting of 30 pine trees the alley was planted in honour of heroes of the Great Patriotic War near the monument to victims of Nazism 1941-1943. The event was also attended by representatives of municipal authorities, the regional media, and family members of employees of Smolenskenergo.

The action of IDGC of Centre "Story of a feat" found a wide response both among employees of Smolenskenergo, and other residents of the Smolensk region. Smolensk residents became authors of many stories written about their family members or friends.

Among them were stories sent from Krasninsky district, as in the Great Patriotic War the district was badly damaged by German occupation. "For more than two years Krasninsky disyrict was occupied by Hitler's army. The Nazis looted civilians, carried out mass executions of the population, severely dealt with all those suspected of links, or even sympathy to guerrillas. "In response to the torture of participant in a punitive expedition the Soviet people were actively involved in the fight against the Nazis," said Chief of Krasninsky Distribution Zone Vyacheslav Meshkov. "Hundreds of residents of Krasninsky district joined the ranks of the Red Army and desperately defended their land," he added.

Please, be reminded that the purpose of the project "Story of a feat" is to tell about the exploits of unknown soldiers and home front workers, who forged the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, as well as to help families and loved ones of heroes to save the memory of them.
